Rajit Kapoor On Pay Parity: On one hand, the revelations made in the Hema Committee report about the atrocities against women in the Malayalam film industry are in the news, while on the other hand, Rajit Kapoor has claimed about pay parity and exploitation of actors in Bollywood. He has said that actors are forced to work for less money and are not paid on time.
In an interview with Unfiltered by Samdish, Rajit said, “There is no system. Casting agencies came only five years ago. Earlier, directors and assistant directors would call actors who would be waiting for three days. You just pick and select. There is no person who is willing to fight for an actor’s money.”
‘Exploitation is still happening today, even if you…’
Rajit further said- ‘There is exploitation even today. Even if you are worth Rs 20,000, they will say if you want to do this, do it for Rs 10,000. Otherwise there are many people waiting for an opportunity. This happens till date.’ Talking about casting agencies, Rajit says- ‘You think it is professional now, because it is packaged that way, but it is not so.’
‘If you stand against the producer then…’
Raazi actor says- ‘In corporate offices, the staff has to be paid salary within 7 days or mostly within 15 days. But actors are not paid for 90 days. What do they do? If you stand up against a producer, you may not get work, that exploitation still exists.’
Actors don’t get their money on time!
Rajit did not stop here, he further said- ‘We have an open discussion that we are paying 50% of the film’s budget to the stars’ and for your co-stars, sir we don’t have money. I heard this line, so I said thank you, when you have money then you can call me. Don’t waste my time. I have done that.’
